Using the Sun to Energize Your Life?

Now that summer is officially here, the days are longer and filled with abundant sunshine, let’s consider solar energy/panels for your home and businesses.  Here are some of the advantages:
  1. Solar energy is a renewable energy source and reduces carbon emissions
  2. Solar energy can reduce your home’s electricity bill
  3. Solar power can get you money back through Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs)
  4. Homes with solar panels installed may improve home value
  5. Solar panels have low maintenance costs
  6. Solar energy can generate electricity in any climate
These are some of the disadvantages to consider:
  1. The high initial costs of installing panels
  2. Solar energy storage is expensive
  3. Solar doesn’t work for every roof type
  4. Solar panels are dependent on sunlight

Each kilowatt-hour (kWh) of solar that is generated will substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions like CO2, as well as other dangerous pollutants such as sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter. Solar also reduces water consumption and withdrawal.  As someone who has solar panels on the roof of their home for almost 10 years, I can attest to the advantages listed above and feel good about how I am doing my part in being environmentally conscious and helping to preserve our planet.

Until next time – stay environmentally savvy!
